As a #productdevelopment company, we get the biggest satisfaction seeing our design being manufactured. #prototyping, #customfabricating, modifying, #conceptualizing, #experimenting are all fun, a mix of #creativity, #innovation and #problemsolving. The issue is that our customers get little to no revenue from prototypes. That’s why #designformanufacturing (#DFM) is so important and the #newproductintroduction (NPI) or #transitiontoproduction is a critical final step to revenue.
Typically, we will support our partner contract manufacturers procurement of production material and inspect first pieces, as well as completely assemble a few units to confirm the final material meets our requirements. A recent customer had a very tight schedule which required us to order all the material and inspect and test the material. Over 100 boxes occupy offices, cubicles and anywhere else we could locate them. Transition to production is always messy… but it feels good.
