Safety is a primary goal of hospital administrators, doctors and healthcare professionals. They also know that patient comfort reduces stress and improves outcomes. So, when an innovation comes along that improves safety and patient comfort, it’s an exciting day.
Nasogastric tubing can be a major source of discomfort for patients. There is no simple way to firmly tether the tubing in place without impacting airflow, so the tube often gets snagged or pulled, causing pain and medical complications. Some creative nurses may use tape or elastic bands and safety pins to fix the tubing to the clothing or gowns, but this is not an ideal solution. Pins are sharp and can puncture the skin, causing a possible infection. These improvised solutions also look sloppy and are not easily adjustable.
As a practicing physician, Dr. Aurora is keenly aware of this problem and approached us with the goal of developing a low-cost tube clip that would be clean, safe, easy to use and non-airflow restricting. After multiple design iterations, RPM Tech presented a simple, low-cost concept that was tested in Maryland hospitals.
Dr Aurora’s company, ISC (Incisive Surgical Concepts), has tooled up the patented concept in Maryland and the product is now available for evaluation and purchase nationwide. This is a great story and we appreciate the opportunity to have been part of developing this product. For more information, follow the link below.
